Better Lead Than Red

Why do eastern european countries support the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq? Bargaining power, of course. And who are these stalwart allies? Former pinkos, of course!

"Most of the keenest US supporters in eastern Europe are former communist apparatchiks who have broken with the past. Poland’s President Aleksander Kwasniewski (minister of youth and sport in the 1980s), Romania’s Ion Iliescu (a member of the communist party central committee) or Bulgaria’s Georgi Parvanov (a high-ranking party official) are the most obvious. But there are many former prime ministers, ministers and MPs who have moved directly from the nomenklatura to unswerving support for US positions."

See, the Left and Right can get along.
