Race And The Elections
I managed to get through that entire Obama post without mentioning that he's biracial. I think the outcomes of two Senate races, which will give control to the Democrats, might have a lot to say about whether or not he enters the race. It's grim and cynical, but it's true. Taylor Marsh thinks the same thing.
Bascially you have Tennessee, where Harold Ford would become the first African-American Senator from the South since Reconstruction. And you have Virginia, where the Republican incumbent George Allen polls lower numbers on his re-elect than on the question "have you heard him say the N-word." If Democrats take one or both of these two, they take the Senate.
So, if you can elect a black man in the South, and you can throw out a racist, that's a strong encouragement that a black man can be elected nationwide.
It goes back to how far you think we've progressed as a society.
I'll leave it up to you.
