Lincoln Is Pro-Hanging

Once again, the right is attempting to appropriate our greatest President, Abraham Lincoln, for themselves. This time, they've wholesale made up a quote and attributed it to him, one that is ludicrous on its face:

“Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged.” — President Abraham Lincoln

Conservatives retyped the quote uncritically after it appeared in the Washington Times this week, even though it's a total fabrication.

In that spirit, I would like to resurrect this Lincoln quote from the Second Inaugural:

"We must not waver, must not falter, until the nation's Social Security system is in the hands of private money managers who will impart their wisdom on the retirement funds of our elderly."

Sure, you can SAY that the Social Security system didn't start until the 1930s, but can you PROVE he didn't say this? Can you?
