Forgotten Wars Update

When you combine Robert Gates calling for an additional 3,000 Marines in Afghanistan to this suicide bombing at a Kabul luxury hotel (which targeted the Norwegian foreign minister), I think it's fair to say that things are slipping for American interests in South Asia. I could add in the continued attacks in Pakistan, as well as new evidence about the assassination of Benazir Bhutto that makes it look like a coordinated plot which the Musharraf government may have known more about than they have let on. The next President really has a mess on his hands in that part of the world, almost to the extent that you can trick yourself into thinking Bush is setting deliberate booby traps to ensure that the next leader is disliked almost as much as he is.
