Charlie Crist is getting "married". He's been single for something like thirty years, and all of a sudden he decides to marry his girlfriend of nine months right before John McCain makes a decision on the Vice Presidency.
Actually, this story makes me sad. Whether this is being done to quell rumors about Crist's sexuality or because every figure running for national office must have a family behind him (or her), or even genuinely out of love, it's sad that a nation where the most common household type is living alone is verboten from having any political leader who is single. I've been married and been single and I'm pretty sure my ability to serve the public would have been unchanged in either role. We have a 1950s vision of the political class in 21st-century America, and it's downright insulting.
