They Love To Show Immigrant Rallies, Don't They?
At one point yesterday, CNN went "all immigration rights marches, all the time." Now, this is great that the marchers get this kind of exposure, but I think that the Dobbses of the world put them onscreen to show middle America the great brown hordes that are coming to get 'em. Unfortunately for them, the marches were peaceful, American flags were everywhere, and there was a Montgomery hose moment:
It was a dramatic and chaotic end to what was otherwise a peaceful day here in Los Angeles. … Police started to move and disperse the crowd and fired rubber bullets, dozens of rubber bullets, into the crowd. People went running and fleeing, trying to get out of their way, and there really was, there didn’t seem to be any warning. Police just took ground and moved forward and started firing on this crowd. … There were a lot of children and families at the rally, in the crowd, and I’ve got to tell you, there really wasn’t a lot of warning.

This makes LAPD come off looking pretty bad, although the most vicious immigrant-haters out there will claim that the marchers were rioting or something. The tape tells the story and it's not a good one. I think that the loudest people on immigration are the Minutemen/Dobbs crowd, but in fact a whopping 78% in a recent poll would like to see the undocumented get a shot at citizenship. The public is way out in front of Washington, and looking at those marches, seeing families who don't want to be broken up and who simply want a better life, it's plain to see why.
