Now You Get To Hear About My Morning Commute!
An indulgence, please, for some local radio blogging.
KCRW-FM (89.9 in LA) has undergone a facelift. Taking leave is Nic Harcourt, who broke several major acts on his flagship show Morning Becomes Eclectic, but who had a tendency to feature one treacly singer-songwriter after another and take the notion of the "exclusive track" to ridiculous heights - my common parody of him would include the line "New music there actually recorded in my basement at home and never released." In his place is Jason Bentley, who hosted the great show Metropolis at night, which mainly stuck to electronica. Yesterday was Bentley's first Morning Becomes Eclectic, and I expected him to liven things up a bit, which he did, but by such a small degree that you might not notice a change were it not for the loss of the British accent. I do have faith in Bentley to bring a little more heat to the morning and put the "eclectic" back in Morning Becomes Eclectic.
By the way, the DJs at KRCW have their Top Ten albums of the year up, and it's definitely worth a look. Good resource if, like me, you have forgotten to buy music since January.
